Bento Grid.
Learn what Bento Grid means in modern web design.
A layout pattern where content is arranged in a grid of variably-sized cells, like the compartments of a Japanese bento box — popularized by Apple keynote slides circa 2022.
Bento grid arranges feature highlights, product capabilities, or marketing claims into a grid of rectangular tiles of different sizes. Each tile contains a focused piece of content: an image, a stat, a short headline. Apple's 2022-2024 marketing pages made it the dominant pattern for SaaS feature showcases.
Why It Works
Bento grids scan well. The visual hierarchy is obvious (bigger cells = more important), the modular structure handles responsive breakpoints gracefully, and the format invites mixed media — illustrations, screenshots, video, plain text — without feeling chaotic.
How to Avoid Generic Bento
By 2026 the pattern is everywhere, which means it's easy to look interchangeable with every other SaaS site. Differentiation comes from custom illustration inside the tiles, considered typography, and a unique grid rhythm rather than the default 3x3 grid most templates ship with.
