BigQuery.

Learn what BigQuery means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginEnglish big (large) + query (database question); Google Cloud product name

Google Cloud's serverless data warehouse that enables SQL queries on large datasets, widely used for unsampled GA4 data analysis.

BigQuery is Google Cloud's fully managed, serverless data warehouse designed for large-scale analytics. It executes SQL queries across terabytes or petabytes of data in seconds without requiring users to manage infrastructure. In digital marketing, BigQuery is most commonly used as the destination for GA4's raw event export.

GA4 + BigQuery Integration

Every GA4 property can export raw, hit-level event data to a linked BigQuery dataset daily (or in streaming mode). This eliminates sampling — a common criticism of GA4's UI — and provides the complete, unfiltered data needed for custom attribution, cohort analysis, and marketing mix modeling.

Pricing Model

BigQuery charges on two dimensions: storage (per GB stored per month) and queries (per TB of data scanned). Most small-to-medium sites incur near-zero costs; enterprise volumes and complex joins over large tables can drive significant spend. Partitioning tables by date and clustering by key columns reduces query costs substantially.

Looker Studio Integration

BigQuery connects natively to Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio), allowing analysts to build live dashboards on top of raw GA4 data. Combined with Looker Studio's blending capabilities, teams can join GA4 data with CRM exports, ad platform data, and other business intelligence sources.
