Generative AI.

Learn what Generative AI means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginLatin: generare (to beget, produce) + artificialis intelligentia

AI systems that create original content—text, images, audio, or code—by learning patterns from training data.

Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence models capable of producing new, original content rather than simply classifying or analysing existing data. These models are trained on vast datasets and learn to generate text, images, audio, video, or code that resembles the training data but is unique.

How Generative AI Works

Most generative AI is built on transformer architecture with techniques like diffusion models (for images) or autoregressive generation (for text). The model predicts what should come next—the next word, pixel, or token—based on the patterns it learned during training.

Impact on SEO and Content Marketing

Generative AI has transformed content production speed while raising questions about quality, originality, and E-E-A-T. Search engines are adapting to evaluate AI-generated content on the same quality signals as human-written content. Brands that combine AI efficiency with genuine expertise, original data, and unique perspective maintain competitive advantage.
