Google Discover.

Learn what Google Discover means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginProper noun (Google product). Latin: dis (apart) + cooperire (to cover, reveal)

Google's personalised content feed on mobile that surfaces articles, videos, and content based on user interests—without a search query.

Google Discover is a personalised content feed that appears on the Google homepage in mobile apps and mobile browsers. Unlike search, Discover delivers content proactively based on a user's demonstrated interests—their search history, location, app usage, and content interactions—without requiring a search query. It surfaces news articles, blog posts, videos, and other content that Google predicts the user will find interesting.

Appearing in Google Discover

Unlike traditional SEO, Discover visibility is less predictable and not keyword-driven. Pages are more likely to appear in Discover if they have: high-quality, engaging visual content (large, high-resolution images of at least 1200px width are strongly correlated with Discover visibility); strong engagement signals from initial traffic (CTR, time on page, shares); fresh publication dates; and E-E-A-T signals that make the content trustworthy. Enabling Google News inclusion (via request or structured eligibility) can improve Discover access for news-oriented publishers.

Discover Traffic Characteristics

Discover traffic tends to be higher in volume but shorter in session duration than organic search traffic—users are browsing rather than seeking. Conversion rates are typically lower, but Discover can drive significant brand awareness and top-of-funnel engagement for publishers with strong visual content and high-interest topics. Monitor Discover performance separately in Google Search Console.
