llms.txt.
Learn what llms.txt means in modern AI search.
A proposed plain-text file placed at the root of a website that gives AI crawlers a curated, machine-readable summary of the site's most valuable content.
llms.txt is to AI crawlers what sitemap.xml is to Google: a hint about what content matters and where to find it. The proposal, made by Jeremy Howard in 2024, suggests a single markdown file at /llms.txt with a structured table of contents pointing to the canonical content for each topic.
Adoption is mixed in 2026 — most major AI engines still ignore it in favor of standard crawling — but a growing number of sites publish one as a low-cost hedge. Aergos publishes its own llms.txt at aergos.ai/llms.txt.
