Learn what Machine Learning means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginFrom Old English: macian (to make) + Latin: machina (device) + Old English: leornian (to learn)

A branch of AI where algorithms learn patterns from data and improve their performance without being explicitly programmed.

Machine Learning (ML) is a method of data analysis that automates the building of analytical models. Instead of following hand-coded rules, ML algorithms identify patterns in data, make decisions, and improve accuracy as they are exposed to more data over time.

Types of Machine Learning

There are three primary types: supervised learning (trained on labelled examples), unsupervised learning (finds hidden patterns in unlabelled data), and reinforcement learning (learns by trial and error with rewards and penalties). Most marketing and SEO AI tools rely on supervised learning.

ML in Marketing

Machine learning powers Google's ranking algorithms, ad bidding systems, audience segmentation, churn prediction, and content recommendation engines. Understanding ML fundamentals helps marketers work more effectively with AI-powered tools.
