Review Schema.
Learn what Review Schema means in modern search and SEO.
Structured data markup that marks up product or service ratings, enabling Google to display star ratings in organic search results.
Review schema (Review and AggregateRating structured data) marks up customer ratings and reviews on a page so search engines can understand and potentially display star ratings directly in organic search listings. AggregateRating markup provides a summary score (e.g. 4.7/5 from 342 reviews) while Review markup annotates individual review entries.
Which Pages Can Use Review Schema
Google permits review rich results on specific page types: Products (e-commerce), Recipes, Movies, Books, Software Apps, Local Businesses, and certain other entity types. Review schema is explicitly NOT permitted on pages where the brand is reviewing its own products without third-party verification—this is a common spam violation. Review markup must reflect genuine user-generated reviews, not editorial ratings by the publisher.
Impact on CTR
Star rating rich results consistently improve organic click-through rates. Studies show CTR lifts of 15–30% for listings displaying star ratings compared to those without—particularly on mobile where the visual prominence of star icons is greater. For e-commerce and local businesses, implementing AggregateRating schema on eligible pages is one of the highest-ROI structured data implementations.
