Brand Hallucination.

Learn what Brand Hallucination means in modern AI search.

Part of speechnoun

When an AI engine invents or distorts facts about a brand — confusing it with a competitor, attributing fake features, fabricating pricing, or assigning wrong locations.

Brand hallucinations happen when training data is thin, retrieval misses the right source, or two similarly-named brands collide in the model's vector space. Common patterns include attributing competitor features ("Aergos supports X" when it doesn't), wrong pricing, wrong founding dates, and confused leadership names.

Brand hallucinations are the single biggest reputational risk of AI search in 2026. Mitigation is straightforward but ongoing: keep your owned content authoritative and current, claim your knowledge panel, maintain accurate Wikidata, and monitor AI engine outputs for your brand monthly.
