SEO Audit Tools.

Learn what SEO Audit Tools means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginSEO + audit + tools; technical SEO diagnostic software category

Software used to crawl and analyse websites for technical SEO issues — including broken links, missing meta tags, duplicate content, speed problems, and structured data errors.

SEO audit tools are software applications that systematically crawl a website's pages — collecting and analysing technical, on-page, and structural SEO data — to identify issues that may be preventing pages from ranking well in organic search. They are the primary diagnostic instruments for technical SEO work.

Desktop Crawlers

Screaming Frog SEO Spider is the most widely used desktop crawler — it crawls up to 500 URLs free (unlimited on paid licence) and exports comprehensive data on status codes, title tags, meta descriptions, H1/H2 headings, canonical tags, hreflang, page speed, structured data, and links. Sitebulb provides a similar crawl with more visual reporting and issue prioritisation. Both run locally and do not require cloud subscription for small-to-medium crawls.

Cloud-Based Audit Tools

Semrush Site Audit, Ahrefs Site Audit, and Moz Site Crawl offer cloud-based auditing with scheduled crawls, historical issue tracking, and integration with other platform features (rank tracking, keyword data). These are most useful for ongoing monitoring — scheduling weekly crawls and alerting when new issues appear — rather than one-off comprehensive audits where desktop crawlers offer more control.

Specialised Audit Tools

Google Search Console: indispensable for indexation issues, manual actions, Core Web Vitals field data, and coverage errors. PageSpeed Insights: speed and Core Web Vitals analysis. Google's Rich Results Test: structured data validation. Screaming Frog Log Analyser: server log analysis for crawl behaviour. DeepCrawl (now Lumar): enterprise-grade cloud crawler with JavaScript rendering, data warehouse integration, and change tracking.
