System Prompt.
Learn what System Prompt means in modern AI and large language models.
The base set of instructions an application gives a language model before the user's first message, defining role, tone, constraints, and behavior.
The system prompt is the developer-set framing that shapes every response. It tells the model who it's acting as ("You are a senior SEO strategist..."), what it can and cannot do, what tone to use, and what data to prefer. Users never see system prompts but they govern almost every meaningful behavior of an AI product.
When two AI products built on the same underlying model behave differently, the system prompt usually explains why. Aergos' content generation, for example, uses a system prompt that requires citations for every specific number and forbids invented client anecdotes.
