NAP consistency refers to having identical, accurate Name, Address, and Phone number information for a business across every online directory, platform, and listing—from Google Business Profile and Yelp to industry directories and chamber of commerce listings. Inconsistent NAP data (different phone numbers on different platforms, abbreviated vs. full street names, suite numbers sometimes included/excluded) confuses search engines and undermines local ranking authority.

Why NAP Consistency Matters for Local SEO

Google's local ranking algorithm uses NAP data from across the web as a trust signal. When dozens of reputable directories agree that a business is at a specific address with a specific phone number, it confirms the business's real-world existence and legitimacy—contributing to the Prominence factor in local ranking.
