Local Pack.

Learn what Local Pack means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginLatin: localis (of a place) + Old English: pæcc (bundle, package)

The group of local business listings that appear in Google search results for location-based queries, featuring a map and three business listings.

The Local Pack (also called the Map Pack or 3-Pack) is a prominent SERP feature that displays three local business listings alongside a Google Maps panel in response to location-based queries. It appears for searches with local intent—'SEO agency near me', 'coffee shops London', 'plumber in Chicago'—and is powered by Google Business Profile data.

Local Pack Ranking Factors

Google's local ranking algorithm considers three primary factors: Relevance (how well the business matches the query), Distance (proximity to the searcher or specified location), and Prominence (how well-known the business is online—reviews, links, mentions). Businesses with complete GBP profiles, consistent NAP information, strong review velocity, and local citations rank highest.

Optimising for Local Pack

Local Pack optimisation focuses on: claiming and fully completing your Google Business Profile; earning regular, authentic customer reviews; building NAP-consistent local citations; optimising your website for local keywords; and earning links from local publications and directories. For businesses with multiple locations, location-specific landing pages and separate GBP profiles are essential.
