People Also Ask.

Learn what People Also Ask means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginAbbreviation: PAA. Old English: þēod (people) + Latin: and (also) + Old English: ascian (to ask)

A Google SERP feature showing related questions and expandable answers for a given query, drawn from indexed web content.

People Also Ask (PAA) is a Google SERP feature that displays a set of related questions users frequently ask on the same topic, each expandable to reveal a brief answer extracted from a web page. The box typically appears after the first organic result and expands dynamically—clicking one question generates additional related questions.

PAA as a Content Research Tool

PAA boxes are valuable research tools for content planning. The questions Google surfaces reflect real user information needs around a topic—making them ideal subheading opportunities, FAQ content, and long-tail keyword targets. Tools like AlsoAsked and AnswerThePublic aggregate PAA data at scale for systematic content gap analysis.

Optimising for PAA

Pages can appear in PAA boxes even without ranking in the top 10 for the primary query—making PAA a secondary traffic and visibility opportunity. To optimise, include a dedicated FAQ section on relevant pages using concise question-and-answer format, implement FAQ Schema to make structure machine-readable, and ensure answers are between 40–60 words for paragraph-format PAA answers.
