Rich Result.

Learn what Rich Result means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginOld French riche (wealthy/elaborate) + Latin resultare (to result)

An enhanced Google search result that displays additional structured information — star ratings, prices, FAQs, images — beyond the standard title and meta description.

A rich result (formerly called a rich snippet) is an enhanced search result that displays structured content beyond the standard title, URL, and meta description — including review stars, price ranges, event dates, product availability, FAQ accordions, how-to steps, recipe information, and more. Rich results are powered by structured data markup (schema.org) implemented on the page, which tells Google what type of content is present and how to display it.

Types of Rich Results

Google supports dozens of rich result types including: Review snippets (star ratings and review count), Product results (price, availability, rating), FAQ results (expandable question-answer accordion), How-to results (step-by-step instructions), Recipe results (cooking time, calories, rating), Event results (date, location, ticket availability), and Article results (published date, author). Eligibility requires valid structured data and a page that meets Google's content policies.

Why Rich Results Matter

Rich results significantly increase the visual footprint of a search listing, which correlates with higher click-through rates — particularly for product and review results where star ratings provide social proof. They do not guarantee higher organic rankings, but they make a given ranking position more productive. Test eligibility using Google's Rich Results Test tool. Monitor appearance and validity in Google Search Console's Search Appearance reports.
