Local Business Schema.

Learn what Local Business Schema means in modern search and SEO.

Part of speechnounOriginLatin localis (of a place) + Latin businessus + Greek schema (shape)

Structured data markup using schema.org's LocalBusiness type to communicate a business's address, hours, contact details, and type to search engines.

Local Business schema is a type of JSON-LD structured data using the schema.org/LocalBusiness vocabulary (or more specific subtypes like Restaurant, MedicalBusiness, LawFirm) that provides search engines with structured information about a physical business: name, address, phone number, opening hours, geographic coordinates, price range, and accepted payment methods.

What Local Business Schema Can Trigger

Local Business schema can contribute to Knowledge Panel population for the business, improve how the business appears in Google's local results, and provide structured data that AI overview systems can reference when answering local queries. It also validates NAP data—ensuring consistency between on-page information and Google Business Profile data.

Required vs Recommended Properties

Google's guidelines require @type, name, and telephone as minimum properties. Strong implementations also include: address (with full PostalAddress sub-properties), openingHoursSpecification, geo (latitude and longitude), url, image, priceRange, and aggregateRating (where reviews exist). The more complete and accurate the schema, the stronger the signal to Google's local ranking systems.
